Structural Heart Interventions
Structural Heart Interventions
Structural heart procedures are minimally invasive treatments for problems in the heart valves, often done without open-heart surgery.
1. TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
-
Used to treat aortic valve narrowing (aortic stenosis).
-
A new valve is inserted through a blood vessel in the leg and placed inside the old valve.
-
Ideal for elderly or high-risk patients.
2. TMVR (Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement)
-
Treats severely damaged mitral valves, usually when other options aren't suitable.
-
A new mitral valve is placed without surgery, using a catheter.
3. MitraClip
-
Used for leaky mitral valves (mitral regurgitation).
-
A small clip is attached to the valve to reduce leakage and improve heart function.
-
Performed through a vein in the leg.
These procedures offer faster recovery, less pain, and better quality of life, especially for those not fit for open-heart surgery.
