TAVR

What is TAVR?
TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a narrowed heart valve (aortic valve) without open-heart surgery.

Why is it done?
It is mainly used for people with severe aortic stenosis – a condition where the heart's main valve becomes too tight and blocks blood flow.

Who needs it?
TAVR is ideal for older adults or those with other health problems who are not good candidates for traditional surgery.

How is it done?
Doctors insert a new valve through a small cut in the leg (groin area) and guide it to the heart using a thin tube called a catheter.

No big surgery needed
Unlike open-heart surgery, TAVR does not require cutting open the chest or stopping the heart.

Quick recovery
Most patients go home in just a few days and feel better within a week or two.

Improves symptoms
After TAVR, people often feel more energetic, breathe better, and have less chest pain or dizziness.

Is it safe?
Yes. TAVR is a proven and safe option with high success rates when done by experienced doctors.

What are the risks?
Like any procedure, there are some risks like bleeding, stroke, or the need for a pacemaker—but these are uncommon.
